Chaindoku

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

Chaindoku is a free deduction game with no ads and no audience analytics. We collect as little data as possible: no name, no password, and an email only if you choose to link one.

01Data controller

The data controller is the publisher of Chaindoku. For any question about your data, email contact@chaindoku.com.

02On your device

Your progress (solved cases, best times, hints used) and your games in progress are always stored in your browser's local storage, including for offline play. It disappears if you clear the site's data.

Your language choice is kept in a "locale" cookie, strictly necessary for the site to work. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, hence no consent banner.

To show how many players are online, your browser joins a Supabase real-time channel under a random identifier kept in its local storage. This identifier is tied to no account and no personal data, and only serves to count you once, even with several tabs open.

03Automatic guest account and email account

When you open a case, an anonymous guest account is created automatically, with no email and no name, to record your games and show them in the leaderboard, anonymously or under your nickname. You can link an email to find your progress on other devices. Accounts are managed by Supabase (authentication and database). The following is processed:

  • a technical account identifier, and your email address if you sign in with an email link or link one to a guest account;
  • your nickname, if you choose one, and your leaderboard display preference;
  • your wins: case, time, number of hints and date, plus the local progress sent once on your first sign-in;
  • the date you first opened each case, used to check leaderboard times;
  • your games in progress (grid, notes, hints and elapsed time), to resume them on another device; they are deleted when you win or restart the case;
  • a session token kept in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in.

04The leaderboard

The Leaderboard page shows, for each case, the time and number of hints of each player's first solve, under their nickname, or "Anonymous investigator" if they have none or unticked the "show my nickname in the leaderboard" option. It shows no email address and no account identifier.

05Book release announcement

If you click “Notify me at release” in the book panel, the date of your request is saved in your account. It is only used to send you an email, at your account address, when the Chaindoku book comes out. You can withdraw your request at any time from the same panel; it is deleted along with your account.

06Bot protection

Guest account creation and the sign-in window use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots and protect the game against mass account creation. To do so, Cloudflare processes technical information (IP address, browser, interaction signals), for security purposes only. The check is usually invisible.

07Purposes and legal bases

  • providing the game and the account you ask for (performance of the terms of use);
  • securing the service, limiting abuse and spam (legitimate interest);
  • showing your nickname in the leaderboard, only if you chose one and left the option ticked (your choice, changeable at any time);
  • notifying you of the book's release, only if you asked for it (consent, withdrawable at any time).

08Service providers

The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes technical logs (IP address, browser, requested pages) to serve the pages and keep them secure. Accounts are managed by Supabase and bot protection by Cloudflare. Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union, with the safeguards provided by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses). Your data is neither sold nor used for advertising.

09Retention

Local data stays in your browser until you clear it. Account data is kept as long as the account exists, then deleted on request. Leaderboard results are public, with no email address and no account identifier.

10Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, object to, restrict and port your data. Your nickname and visibility can be changed directly in the Sign in panel. For anything else, including deleting your account, email contact@chaindoku.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL, cnil.fr).

11Changes

This policy may evolve with the game. The last update date is shown at the top of the page.
